What will happen on my first visit?
Your initial visit will consist of a thorough evaluation by your therapist, based on your physician’s diagnosis and presscription, and a brief treatment.  An assessment of your problem will be explained to you and any questions you may have will be answered.  Your therapist will develop a treatment program designed specifically to meet your individual goals.  Your therapist will recommend the number of appointments to schedule and provide you with exercises to complete at home between your visits in the clinic.

How long will each visit take?
The average treatment time is 60-90 minutes depending on your individual treatment plan.

What should I wear to physical therapy?
Wear clothes and shoes that are appropriate for exercise.  Clothing should either expose the involved area (i.e. wear shorts if you are being treated for your knee) or be loose enough to allow access to the area being treated.   Lockers are available for patients to store their personal items during treatment.

What should I bring to my first visit?
Bring the prescription for therapy from your physician, your insurance card (if applicable), and a list of your current medications.

Is physical/occupational therapy covered by my insurance?
Worker’s Compensation:  Our office will acquire authorization from your insurance and keep your adjusters, nurse case managers and physicians informed of your treatment and progress.
Private Insurance:  We will verify your eligibility and benefits for physical therapy and inform you of any deductible, copay, or limitations on your coverage.

How much does physical/occupational therapy cost?

The cost of physical therapy varies depending on the treatment rendered at each visit and total treatment time.  Your personal cost will depend on your individual insurance policy.

What are the qualifications of your staff?
All of our therapists are licensed by the state of California.  For more in depth information, please visit the staff page.

Who will I be seeing when I come in for treatment?
We utilize a team approach to reach the goals set at your initial evaluation.  Your treatment will be carried out by the therapist who performed your evaluation and, if appropriate, by a Physical Therapist Assistant (PTA).  To learn more about the role of the Physical Therapist Assistant, click here.  A physical therapy aide might also assist you with exercises under the direct supervision of the primary treating therapist.

Should I come to therapy if I am sick?

If you are experiencing fever, chills, body aches, or stomach irritation, it would be best for you to reschedule your physical therapy visit.  Otherwise, you run the risk of prolonging your own recovery as well as infecting staff and other patients.  In this case, please call our office and we would be happy to reschedule your appointment for when you are feeling better.

Is it common to experience soreness after physical therapy?

Some patients experience mild muscle soreness following therapy, similar to the soreness you might experience after a workout. However, should your original symptoms become worse during your course of treatment, please notify your therapist.  Your program will be modified or progressed based on how you respond to treatment, so it is important to report any changes in your condition to your therapist.

What happens when I have completed my visits?
When you have achieved your treatment goals, you will be discharged with an individualized exercise program and strategies to help prevent recurrence of your problem.
